Home: A Poem

There is one thing that we all want. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, or what you’ve gone through. We all want love.

However, I have found, through trial and error, that love eludes those who don’t know who love is: God. How can we hope to give love if we don’t have love: God. How can we discern love if we don’t know what love is?

Without God, we fall victim to the tricks, schemes, and tactics of the enemy–Satan. Satan is a created being. He is not the Creator, God. Thus, he can’t create anything. He can only pervert and destroy what God has created.

Therefore, he masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). And one of the things he loves to pervert is love. Because many people don’t know who/what love is they eagerly and desperately accept Love’s counterfeit–Satan’s perversion of love.

Love’s counterfeit is pain. Love’s counterfeit is blind. Love’s counterfeit is conditional. Love’s counterfeit is selfish and says I love you based on how you make me feel and what you can do for me. Love’s counterfeit leads to brokenness and bondage.

However, love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

I have been decimated by Love’s counterfeit enough to know that I want the real thing. And the real thing is worth waiting for. The real thing is worth fighting for. The real thing is love, and it can only be found in God. ❤
