I rode past this protest and honked my horn and threw up my fist in support of the Black Lives Matter protesters. However, as I continued toward my destination, it struck me that this protest (Black Lives Matter protesters on one side and Police Lives Matter/ Confederate flag protesters on the other) was a picture of the current state of America: DIVIDED.
At the prompting of the Holy Spirit, I went back to the protest, parked my car, and took a video and pictures of the protest. In that moment, I didn’t know why the Holy Spirit wanted me to but I soon found out.
Toward the end of the day, the Holy Spirit convicted me about honking my horn and throwing up my fist in support of BLM. The Lord impressed upon my heart that this kind of behavior works against what we truly need right now: unity. At some point, we’re going to have to lay down our sticks and stones and extend some olive branches. We’re going to have to unify because a nation divided against itself is brought to desolation (Matthew 12:25).
As followers and believers of Jesus Christ, we are called to be peacemakers. We are called to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3).
We are called to be one (John 17:21).
“That they may all be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:21).
As brothers and sisters, we are not supposed to be divided. God made us alive TOGETHER. He raised us up TOGETHER and made us sit TOGETHER in heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 2:4-6).
“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 2:4-6).
It’s ironic that we are called the United States of America, but we are so divided. We as a country, as a people, as the body of Christ need unity. We need to be united against our true enemy: Satan. We need to fight him instead of each other.
So, my brothers and sisters, I urge you, wherever you are, to dwell in unity with your brothers and sisters. If we are going to unify, it has to start with the Church. It has to start with YOU and ME. ❤
