God is love.
1 John 4:7 states: “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”
The fact that God is love tells us that love is sacred, and in order to have it, we must have God. God and love are inextricably connected. You don’t have one without the other.
How do we know love?
1 John 3:16 tells us: “By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
We know what love is because of Jesus’s life, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. Jesus is love personified. He is love in action. You want to know Who love is and what love does, study the life of Jesus.
How do we love God and others?
“By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments” (1 John 5:2-3).
If you don’t love God and keep commandments, you don’t love Him or anyone else.
In closing, we are in the month of February. The month “love” is celebrated. There are many declarations and demonstrations of love that will be made on February 14th. However, before that time, think about those you proclaim to love and those who proclaim to love you.
Hold this “love” up to the biblical definition of love found in 1 Corinthians 13.
Does your love ring true?
Understand that if God is not in your relationships, neither is love. Understand that God does not dwell in sin. He is light and there is no darkness in Him. He has no fellowship with darkness. He is the truth, and no lie is of the truth.
Be encouraged! You are loved! ❤
