Is there anything the devil can use in this world to entice you to sin against God?
1 John 2:16 tells us that “all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world.”
So, which one is it for you? Which one can the devil use to tempt you into sinning against God and doing things that are outside of His will. Which one can he use to steal, kill, and destroy the good things in your life? Which one can he use to bring negative consequences into your life?
Is it the lust of the flesh? Do you have control over your body or does your body have control over you? Do you indulge its every urge and desire–even when it’s in direct opposition to God’s word and will. (See Galatians 5:19-21).
Is it the lust of the eyes? Are you enticed to sin against God by the things that are appealing to your eyes. Are you taken captive by the fleeting and decaying riches of this world that your eyes behold?
Is it the pride of life? Are you going after your own way–doing what seems right in your own eyes–not caring about what God’s will is for your life? Are you seeking first the kingdom of God and its righteousnessness or are you trying to live your best life now by any means necessary?
Understand that the devil is going to come to tempt you with the aforementioned. He’s going to wait for an opportune time as he did with Jesus and Eve. His goal will be to derail your destiny–steal, kill, and destroy all that God has for you.
Therefore, examine yourself. Ask the Lord to search your heart and show you what you’re susceptible to.
Don’t be deceived about who you are–your weaknesses, limitations, and proclivities. Be sober, be vigilant, (1 Peter 5:8) and don’t be afraid. We have a Great High Priest, Jesus Christ, who was tempted in every way but sinned not. When the temptations come, He will provide you with a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
