“I’m leaving.”
I sat there stunned,
As the words shot from your lips,
Ripping through my flesh,
Like a hollow-point shotgun slug.
Exploding on impact,
As it penetrates my flesh,
Severing my aorta,
Collateral damage.
I forced a smile,
As you spoke of your new adventure.
But the words didn’t register,
As my vision grew misty.
My breathing more labored,
The room begin to spin,
As we slipped away,
And the darkness entered in.
“Wait.”
A mellifluous, baritone voice spoke from the light,
That now shun all around.
“This is not the end,
Go back,
It’s only goodbye…for now.”
